California is still experiencing wildfires that are destroying homes and businesses in the countryside. Professional sports have also been affected by the fires; the Los Angeles Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings NFL playoff game was rescheduled to Arizona in order to avoid the flames.
Tiger Woods has now been forced to give in to the fires as well, relocating his yearly golf tournament, when there were expectations that he would be able to avoid doing the same.
This year's Genesis Invitational, which takes place from February 10–16, will be held at a new venue than the Riviera Country Club, where it is held every year.
"The safety and well-being of those impacted by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles remain the PGA Tour's top priorities," the PGA said in an official statement.
"We are appreciative of the first responders' life-saving actions and the ceaseless efforts to contain the devastating wildfires.
In light of the current circumstances and in cooperation with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club, and TGR Live, we have decided that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will take place at a different venue during the week of February 10–16.
"In the upcoming days, more tournament details and a venue will be made available." Hideki Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational last year, defeating Will Zalatoris by three strokes.
With any luck, the fires will be extinguished quickly, allowing those affected to resume their regular lives.
