In 2024, Mexican chains like Del Taco and Taco John's opened new locations rapidly and announced ambitious growth plans. As these chains expand, two legendary local Mexican restaurants will close forever.
Nacho Mama's announced on Facebook this week that it's closing its Towson and Canton locations after 30 years. Fans have only a few weeks to enjoy hubcap margaritas, nachos, and other Tex-Mex at both restaurants before they close on Jan. 12.
After Patrick "Scunny" McCusker opened Nacho Mama's in Canton in early 1994, the concept was a hit. In 2016, Nacho Mama's opened a second location after its success.
Sister seafood concept "Mama's on the Half Shell" opened two more restaurants in 2003 and 2023. Both locations will remain open after Nacho Mama's closes next month.
"We are looking forward to continued success and growth within the Mama's Restaurant Group as we embark upon our future," Jackie McCusker, McCusker's partner, wrote on Facebook.
McCusker thanked Nacho Mama's customers for their support throughout their business, but she didn't say why.
