Smriti Mandhana Creates History; Becomes First Player In The World

During the third Twenty20 International between India and the West Indies, Smriti Mandhana maintained her scorching form with an incredible 77 in just 43 balls.

In the process, Madhana set two enormous world records. As India amassed a massive 217 on the board, the interim captain scored her third half-century in a row.

Smriti Mandhana, who led the team in Harmanpreet Kaur's absence, continued her scorching form in international cricket on Thursday, December 19, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. She made history during the series decider against the West Indies.

Mandhana gave India a quick start as the Women in Blue scored 61 runs in the powerplay after the visitors won the toss and decided to bowl first. The substitute Indian captain hit seven straight balls from Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry for boundaries.

Mandhana broke Suzie Bates' long-standing world record by reaching her half-century in just 27 balls. Before being removed by Dottin, she scored 77 runs in 47 balls as India amassed a massive 217.

With her 30th half-century in T20Is, Mandhana now holds the record for the most 50+ runs scored by a female cricket player in the game's shortest format. Throughout her career, Bates scored 29 50+ runs, including 28 half-centuries and one ton.
